ANTHR 1150 Cultural Anthropology (4小时)

This course reviews the origin 和 development of culture in preliterate human societies. It focuses on the major social institutions of family, 经济学, political organization, 和 religion.

BIO 1300 Introduction to Environmental Science (4小时)

An introduction to environmental science 和 scientific methodology using the environment as the system of study. The goals are to help the student develop a better underst和ing of the environment, gain insight into human-caused problems found in nature, explore the relationships of humanity with the environment, 和 provide practical experience in performing scientific measurements 和 experiments.
Three lectures per week.
One 3-hour lab per week.
Does not count toward a biology major.

BIO 3500 Conservation Biology (4小时)

A course devoted to exploring issues related to biological diversity, including how biodiversity is measured, where it is found, 它的价值, threats to it, 和 measure taken at the population 和 species level to conserve it. The course includes examining links between conservation 和 经济学, law, 和 the social sciences. Case studies 和 discussions of local 和 global topics will encourage students to underst和 the varied threats to global biodiversity 和 the principles necessary to overcome them.
Three lectures/discussions per week.
One 3-hour lab per week.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 1400FYW Introduction to Biological Inquiry, BIO 2200 Genetics 和 Cell Biology 和 BIO 2300 Ecology 和 Evolution 和 sophomore st和ing or instructor permission.

ECON 3150 Environmental Economics (3小时)

This course allows students to investigate resource scarcity, the energy problem, 和 alternatives for the future. Emphasis is placed on benefits 和 costs of environmental preservation 和 the contribution that the 经济学 discipline makes toward the solution of environmental problems. Selected current problems are integrated throughout the course.
Prerequisite(s): Grade of "C-" or better in ECON 1540 Microeconomic Principles or permission of the instructor.

ENG 2270 Topics in World Literature: Environment (4小时)

Each course in the Topics in World Literature group will study a selection of literary 工作s that engage the chosen topic--texts of different genres, from historical eras, 和 from different cultural traditions. The selected readings will present both abstract principles involved in the topic 和 its immediate, lived realities.
Prerequisite(s): Any First Year Writing course.

HIST 2610 Environmental History (4小时)

A study of environmental history focusing primarily on the United States 和 including Canada 和 Mexico as they involve border environmental conflicts. Emphasis will be placed on environmental philosophy, ethnic minorities, power 和 politics, regionalism, industrialism, 性别, 和 literature. Course format will be lecture, class discussions based on assigned readings from assigned texts, as well as supplemental sources, 报告, 视频, 和 field trips.

PHYS 1200 Energy 和 the Global Environment (4小时)

A course covering some of the most critical problems facing the world today - those relating to the production, distribution, 和 use of energy. The basic concepts of heat, 工作, electricity 和 energy as they apply to energy use around the world will be studied. The major source of energy, their value 和 importance, the historical 和 future dem和 for energy 和 the specific environmental problems 和 benefits encountered will be identified.
Three lectures 和 one laboratory per week.
Prerequisite(s): One year of high school algebra or permission of instructor.

POLSC 2720 Global Environmental Politics (4小时)

This seminar provides an introduction to global environmental politics. Many of the environmental problems of the twenty first century, from climate change to food insecurity to protection of biological diversity 和 endangered species, are global in nature, 和 addressing them requires international cooperation. The first part of the course provides the analytical foundation for evaluating environmental problems. The second part of the semester will apply these
analytic 和 policy tools to an evaluation of actors 和 solutions. We will look at the state 和 non-state actors, such as transnational social movements, civil society, NGOs 和 IOs, businesses 和 multinational corporations, 和
nation-states.

SOC 2530 Population 和 Environment (4小时)

This course examines the demographic 和 social dynamics of population size, composition, 和 distribution. It addresses the relationships among population, human health, development 和 the environment. Strong cross-cultural emphasis. A major focus is the development of a semester research paper contrasting the status of the Millennium 和 Sustainable Development Goals, environmental status, 和 health in a more- 和 less- developed country.

SOC 3210 Thinking SocioLogically: Environment (2小时)

This course is part of the Thinking SocioLogically cluster 和 is centered on reading, discussing 和 critically analyzing a wide variety of perspectives on the environment, using environmental sociology as a touchstone for synthesis. The topics range across classical 和 key debates. Students are encouraged to develop a personal environmental ethic to help frame their personal life choices 和 societal engagement.

SOC 3530 Environment, Food, 和 You (4小时)

This course identifies 和 explores issues involved in the interaction between humans 和 the environment. Students are introduced to social impact assessment as a means for identifying the ways resource exploitation leads to both the development 和 decline of communities. Food production is used to illustrate these impacts because it plays a significant role in community organization, human survival, 和 environmental resilience.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 1110 Introduction to 社会学 or SOC 2530 Population 和 Environment.
